10 tips to start doing jigsaw puzzle (and not get discouraged), part two

Last week I gave you first five tips to make the process of doing jigsaw puzzles easy and pleasant for every beginner and intermediate puzzle maniac:

  1. Choose the right puzzle picture
  2. Find the best place to assemble the pieces
  3. Sort the elements
  4. See ‘the bigger picture’
  5. Take a break

If you haven't read that post, I encourage you to also read it (link). Today I would like to present five more.

6. Pay attention to cutting and the texture

Some of the more advanced puzzle-maniacs cut the time of doing jigsaw in half by taking a closer look at the characteristic texture of the puzzle pieces. There are also other details to pay attention to, such as the direction of the painter's brush stroke, printed text, and the form of cutting which can be very repetitive especially in 1,000+ piece puzzles. As you can see the creativity of finding tricks is endless for puzzle-maniacs.

7. In search of the missing puzzle piece

I don’t know about you but I sometimes spend a lot of time in search of one element. I explore the pieces left in the box back and forth because at that moment I fear that the element has vanished for good. Well, you’d better let go unless you can keep calm. The missing element will be found only when you stop looking?

8. Take a look at the picture

Seriously, it doesn’t bite. In fact, it can help you organize your whole work. The picture or posters (mostly added to 2,000+ piece puzzles) can help you notice all the details that may have escaped your attention and find the approximate place for a few next elements.

9. Share your progress

Doing jigsaw puzzles is a passion, and a passion needs to be shared! Take a picture of your done piece or a work-in-progress and share it on your social media accounts. Jigsaw puzzle lovers are everywhere, it is a great international community who loves sharing their accomplishments. Join a fan page and be a part of this family.

10. Have fun!

I would like to end this entry with the most obvious tip – have fun doing jigsaw. If you need a break, take it. Do it at your own pace. Don’t compete and compare yourself to others unless you want to. Enjoy your passion, take on new challenges. Puzzles are meant to be fun.
